Life is precious, each of us begin it vulnerable to the world around us....
This is one of my favorite pieces so far, and it's also my first try at drawing a baby.
On paper the hand looks like it is floating in mid air, has a kinda 3d effect I'm quite happy with the outcome.
11 x 14 inch
Smooth Bristol
3b and H Graphite
4 days+ (approx. 40 hrs)
Hope you enjoy. ~Linda
ps: i will reply back, it just takes me quite a long time to do so.
Hi and thank you. I too have never seen a portrait like this, that's why i drew it The reference photo showed most of the dads body and both arms and hands, so I drew only what i wanted and then added in a background. ~Linda

Wow, keep taking looks to make sure its not actually a photo imposed over a pencil background! Awesome, everything about it is good. A few things that I like most about this are: the hair on the mans arm is just perfect and I love the shine you achieved with the babies eyes and the mans thumb for some reason just kinda stands out to me.
I love this drawing! Maybe i shouldn't be adding this to my favourites because anything I draw will never compare at all, but whatever, I'll be comign back to this again and again.
excellent work again Linda! the shadings are amazing. i also love how you've drawn only one arm of the dad. it gives a perfect balance to the whole composition. bravo!
Linda, this is precious! The contrast of the smoothness of the babie's skin next to the hairy arm of the father is wonderful. The shadows are rich and I love the background. You did a fantastic job with this! Definitely one to be proud of!
Thank you very much, and yes it's all pencil. The mans thumb and the babies hand were overexposed in the reference photo, also the hairs on his arm could not be seen...this is where the research came into play, i looked up photos of babies hands and looked at my husbands arm and hand....i looked and drew what i knew to be right.... Thanks again for looking ~Linda

Thank you Balance is very important to me, it's what i strive for in each drawing....balance of tones, and the all around look of the work is key. I had fun with this one, on paper it has a 3d look and that makes me happy ~Linda
