Hi there, I only snapped 3 wip images of the Depp portrait and here they are. I start with a one inch grid, draw in a detailed outline and then starting from the top left I work my way to the bottom right. I work slowly and go over many areas till they look right, drawing in as much details as I can to make the drawing have a realistic look to it. The Vellum Bristol is great because it has a slight texture to it, this makes for realistic skin. I used a 2b mechanical pencil for most of the portrait, a 3b for large dark areas and a H for lighter areas, tissue to blend large areas and blending sticks for smaller.
I will be uploading a couple of close ups of this one in a moment.
Thanks for looking ~Linda
This is quite helpful, really. It allows me to see how to layout a portait type piece.
I seem to be okay when the person doesn't exist in the real world, but when it comes to reproducing real life people it tends to get a bit muddled.
I like being able to see what kinds of lines you used to set the foundation of the face.
I'll have to keep it in mind when next I attempt a portait.
Great job on this and the final piece.

I'm curious about another thing... How do you draw so you don't accidently put smudge marks on the paper with your hand? I don't see any smudges on your paper, it looks so clean and disciplined
