All dogs go to heaven by imaginee All dogs go to heaven by imaginee
Hi, this is Sandy the beloved pet of my sister and her family. The reference photo was taken a few months ago sometime before she was diagnosed with Cancer. A few days ago Sandy was put to sleep.

This is my first dog portrait, I did draw a sketch of my dog Lady recently but this one i spent 3 days drawing on and off. I'll be giving the portrait to sis in a few days when i see her.

Thanks for looking!
Merrry Christmas!!

I used smooth Bristol paper
3b pencil and a tiny bit of H
eyes were blended and some hair

do you have any tips for how to draw such amazing fur on animals?
imaginee Featured By Owner Dec 2, 2006
Main tip is to draw slowly, do a little bit at a time. Oh and try not to think of it as drawing hairs, just have fun and draw what you see in the ref. ~Linda

This is a really good drawing, did you look at a picture of your dog to draw it?

So beautiful. The fur texture is just perfect. And the light in the eyes, amazing. I can relate to your loss, just lost my dog a few months ago and drew her too. A portret of a beloved pet is the best present someone can get. Great work. Really good!!

can't beleive i missed this one before, saw it in someone else's favourites,
WOW factor 100% !!
you are soooooo good.

I did an drawing of a German Shepheard (in colour pencils)it took forever, and it was from a
black and white reference photo.(it's in my gallery)

I said I would stick with graphite for any future detailed animal drawings, I think looking at this, it is a better medium to use especially with all the fur.

Awe Linda you made the ears look so soft ...
I am so sorry to hear of your sister's loss of her beloved pet.
This loving gesture you have done for is so beautiful not only because the drawing looks exactly like the photo but because it was done by you, her sister.

Ooooo, how sweet of you to do this. GREAT job on the fur, in all of it's crazy different directions. That had to be fun to do. You also nailed the textures of her nose, eyes and gumline too. :D It's hard to tell, so I'll ask, did you end up doing any smearing or blending?

Oh, and :+fav: of course. ;)
